Get involved with the Women’s Housing Forum

The Women’s Housing Forum (WHF) began as a small group of women in the social housing sector determined to tackle the structural inequalities women face when trying to access safe and suitable housing. Today, we are a growing network of people committed to raising awareness and driving change.

What we have achieved so far

  • Built a strong platform – We launched a website in collaboration with organisations like the Domestic Abuse Housing Alliance (DAHA) and Homeless Link, both of which share our vision.

  • Held events and conferences – We’ve spoken at key housing forums and hosted our own events, including a standout conference last year. We work with the National Housing Federation (NHF), the Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH), and others to amplify women's housing needs.

  • Conducted vital research – Our report Women, Money and Housing, produced with the NHF, helped shape the Women’s Budget Group’s A Home of Her Own: Women and Housing report, which we co-launched in Parliament.

  • Raised awareness through media – We use print, digital, and social media to spread our message, including a recent feature on BBC Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour.

Looking ahead – what’s next?

We’re ambitious about the future and want to do more:

  • Commission research with an intersectional lens – There’s a gap in research exploring how different aspects of inequality impact women’s housing needs. We aim to fill that gap and use the findings to influence policy.

  • Share best practices and build partnerships – More resources would allow us to host more events, raise awareness of emerging issues, and foster sector-wide collaboration.

  • Advocate for lasting solutions – We’re calling on Housing Associations to offer more permanent move-on accommodation to smaller supported housing providers, helping more women escape emergency situations.

Join us – new membership model

To strengthen our work, we’re transitioning to a membership model. This will help formalise support, provide vital infrastructure, and cover costs such as travel expenses for tenants with low incomes to attend meetings and events.

  • Individual membership is free, though donations are welcome.

  • Organisational membership fees (on a sliding scale):

    • Under £1m turnover – £100 per year

    • £1m–£10m turnover – £250 per year

    • £10m–£50m turnover – £500 per year

    • Above £50m turnover – £1,000 per year

If you share our passion for tackling housing inequality, we’d love for you to join us. Complete the membership form below to become part of the Women’s Housing Forum.
